Radar and lightning detection

The ground-based remote sensing division is conducting research activities based on the exploitation of weather radar and lightning detection networks. Satellite, weather station and crowdsourced observations are also used. Several topics are addressed :

• Observation of precipitation and lightning
• The use Deep Learning techniques for precipitation observations
• Exploitation of long time series of radar and lightning observations for deriving climatological information on precipitation, hail and lightning
• Development of deterministic and probabilistic nowcasting systems
• Exploration of novel data sources for meteorology - crowdsourcing and opportunistic sensing
